  • Why jan jesberger insurance has EPLI or Employers Liability Protection Insurance

Employment practices liability insurance, or EPLI protects employers against claims made by employees alleging discrimination (based on sex, race, age or disability, for example), harassment, wrongful termination, and other employment-related issues, such as failure to promote.

In today’s litigious world business owners worry about being sued. Even though we make every attempt to follow every rule and regulation, we can still be sued. With the heightened awareness for harassment, and having to run a business it only makes sense to protect yourself against potential lawsuits. Even if you have done nothing wrong, a lawsuit can run into the tens of thousands of dollars. As a small business, Jan and I must attend to accounting, marketing, benefits, and all of the other details that running a small business entails. While we try to make sure we do everything right, there is always a concern that someone will decide that we have done something wrong either before, during or after employment. Our business has been sued, and even though the suit was groundless, we very nearly lost our business. If I could not have supported our family on my teaching salary, we would have lost our business, and maybe our house, just in lawyers’ fees. There is nothing worse than walking to the mailbox and seeing a bill from your lawyer and not know whether the bill would be 1000 or 10,000 that month

That is why Jan and I would not be without an EPLI policy. And although EPLI won’t prevent you from being sued, it will ensure that you will survive the financial hit. (I almost had a heart attack though!)

EPLI can help you pay for lawsuits over

  • Employee benefits mismanagement
  • Wrongful termination
  • Wrongful discipline or demotion
  • Discrimination
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Privacy Invasion
  • Emotional distress

EPLI is a great protection, and in our view a necessary one, given our litigious society. EPLI is a “claims made” coverage which means you are only covered if the alleged incident and the claim is filed while the EPLI is in force. That is why it is important that you call us today to place your protection today, If you have a question in Idaho, Montana, Washington or Arizona you should drop Laura a line at laura@janjinsurance.com, or give her a call at 208-762-2122.
